When data is lost on a hard drive, it can result in two scenarios: 1) the operating system is fine, hard disk is still accessible, but files are missing 2) the computer doesn’t boot up and weird noises are heard from the hard disk. Now let us see step by step procedure to tackle both the scenarios.

To tackle scenario 1:

a) Don’t write anything to the hard disk after the data loss. This is because whenever you delete the files from the hard drive, the OS does not delete the information permanently. It shows you that there are more free spaces but they are still occupied by the deleted information. You will not be able to see it, but data recovery software will.

b) If you have taken the backups of all the important information, check the backups and restore them to retrieve the lost information. If you have not taken the backup, follow the data recovery steps as mentioned in the steps below. It is always good to take back-up of important information on a regular basis.

c) Never install the data recovery software in the drive where the data loss has occurred. The reason is that if you install on the same drive, you might overwrite the lost data.

d) In order to be safe, always switch off the computer after the data loss. All the operations of the OS depend on the reads and writes with the hard drive and this may result in overwriting the lost data.

e) Remove the hard disk from the computer and connect a new hard drive. After you have installed an OS in the new hard drive you can connect the old hard disk to the computer as a secondary drive and access it without writing anything to it. If you prefer not to install an OS then you run a Linux live CD instead. You can also do this by putting your hard disk into a USB hard drive enclosure. Then connect it to the computer via USB to access the files.

f) If the data loss has happened due to a virus attack, make sure you have installed an anti-virus software on the second computer where you will be performing the data recovery.

g) There are several free data recovery softwares available on the internet, select the appropriate one and recover your data.

To tackle scenario 2:

Whenever there is hard disk failure, it is impossible to access the hard drive. One of the most common reasons is head crashes. The head is responsible for reading the disk’s magnetic surface. But a hardware failure means it grinds against the metal surface and makes the reads impossible. If you have a hard drive failure follow the steps below:

a) Switch off the computer and don’t try to start it again as this can result in further damage to the hard drive

b) Keep the hard disk secure, for instance if the hard drive failed due to the external problem like flood, preserve it in water and don’t try to dry it by your own.

c) Whenever the physical error occurs, we cannot fix it. So contact a good data recovery company and identify which components need to be replaced.

d) Most of the data recovery companies will not charge anything if they are not able to recover the data. They may give and estimation time for analyzing the hard drive. Use a wrapping material while handing over the hard drive. Also use foam to prevent the sudden movements and to secure the hard disk inside. Hopefully they will be able to fix the physical errors and recover your data.

Computers and their various parts eventually break down after repeated wear and tear. Some parts can become obsolete so they need to be upgraded. Other parts could have yet been of service, but unfortunately meet an untimely end due to improper handling or use. If you want to make the most of your computer — and spend less for replacement parts — you need to take care of it properly. Here are some tips to help protect your computer from an early demise.

* Properly shut down your computer.

Avoid unplugging your computer or turning it off by pressing the power button. This catches your computer unawares and prevents it from saving its current state. It can also corrupt the data on your hard disk drive. If your system files become corrupted, you may have to reinstall your operating system and all your other software. This will make you lose all your files! Practice a little patience and wait for your computer to shut down completely before unplugging it from the power outlet.

* Do not hit or drop your computer.

Computer parts are very sensitive! Do not strike your computer for whatever reason. Your hard drive could be irreparably damaged if jolted while it is spinning. Even a drop of a few feet is enough to render most notebook computers senseless and useless. If you have to hit something, try the wall or other object that can better withstand physical battery.

* Do not wet your keyboard.

This is extremely lethal for laptop computers. Wet keyboards will cause sensitive internal laptop components to short-circuit. If the damage is severe, you may need to get a new system. To avoid this problem, try not to eat and drink while using your laptop, or work by the pool or beach. If a binging session cannot be avoided, be very careful not to spill any drinks on your keyboard.

If you treat your computer with care, it will happily serve you many years and be less likely to hang up or freeze on you. You will also get to save on repair and replacement costs!

If you’re a business creating a profile on Facebook and decide you want to add a fan page to the mix, there are several very big “don’ts” you need to watch out for. Contrary to what you might think, its not enough to slap your logo in the picture area, add some info about your business and let it sit, hoping someone will see it.

In this case, if you build it, they won’t necessarily come, especially in today’s web environment where attention spans have whittled down to nothing. However, I’m going to give you a quick and dirty list to check against your Facebook fan page to make sure you’re not making some huge mistakes:

1) Don’t use a stock photo or logo. Use a real photo. If you want to add your logo or brand somewhere on the photo, that could be ok. I tell this to all my clients, with the exception of groups like non-profits, as they can usually get away with some kind of logo. If you’re a business, use a picture of a real person (don’t be silly and take it from a stock photo site either), someone visitors can relate to. One of the biggest mistakes businesses make is this one.

2) Don’t use the corporate jargon. You want to sound professional, but warm and engaging at the same time. This doesn’t mean you have to be overly familiar – for example, just talk about what you do, what you’re interested in outside of work and what your goals are.

3) Don’t forget to add your phone number, website and email!

4) Don’t just expect people to come to you. Start spreading the word throughout your office and company, send emails to colleagues, search for people and invite them to become friends; essentially socialize and start building your community.

5) Don’t let it just sit there. If you just let it sit there, nothing will happen. Nothing. It will be as if you never created it at all. Either use it actively, find help inside or outside your company to help you monitor it and make sure it looks active and alive, not abandoned.

If you’re a business looking to promote yourself through social media, one of the key sites you’ll want to look at is Facebook. Facebook is one of the largest social media networking sites on the web and is great for people of all ages. MySpace is good too, but Facebook caters to a larger, more diverse audience.

After you’ve created a profile on Facebook, your next step as a business should be to create a fan page. A fan page is a GREAT way to add contacts, post gimmicks like contests and talk about your company. If you come up with a clever enough plan, you can easily gain many “fans.”

Here are the top 4 reasons to make a Facebook fan page for your website now:

1) All the pages include links to your website. While you can’t use anchor text, the link still allows people to visit your website, which ties into reason number 2.

2) Fan pages are public by default because they don’t require a login to visit (unless you set that option, then they’re no longer visible to everyone, only Facebook members or your allowed contact). If you keep your fan page public (and what’s the point of a fan page if you don’t), its easier for the search engines to index those pages, which in turn allows the possibility that someone will find you in a search. The goal then would be to have someone find you through a search, visit your fan page, then click on the link that takes them to your site.

2) Its free and easy to set up. Additionally, you have complete control over the area. You don’t have to rely on a webmaster or someone else to make additions or change it around, and you can be the first one to make a fan page for your industry, which only you control (nice for getting ahead of your competitors;p).

3) You can send updates to fans, which is key when you’re trying to build a social community and promote yourself. Also, don’t forget to offer information that benefits your users. Tips surrounding your industry, anecdotes, contests – all these make it fun and worth their while for people to become and stay a fan.

4) Besides the viral marketing options above, keep in mind that each time someone becomes a fan, they’re automatically subscribed to your feed, and you show up on their feed and their page. For example, say fan #1 joins company A’s site because they have a cool contest or a funny story. The fact that they became a fan shows up in their personal feed and on their page. A couple of fan #1′s friends visit your page from fan #1′s page, and they become fans. Then the whole process starts again.

Building links is one of the best ways to achieve rankings on the search engines and increase traffic to your site; more importantly, it tells Google how relevant your site is. However, people often make bad decisions when it comes to link building; here are the 25 don’t s of link building. Please feel free to comment with your own additions.

Don’t:

1. Hide links off a page.
This is a sneaky CSS trick Google doesn’t like.

2. Buy links where everyone else is buying.
Get off the beaten path; if you buy where everyone else is buying, you dilute the value of the links.

3. Purchase links from any link builder that lists their inventory online.
Google can see that list as well ya know.

4. Use automated link building software.
Talk about leaving a footprint.

5. Use the same anchor text over and over.
Your anchor text density should look natural and varied. For general ideas about anchor text density or variation, check out your competitors’ usage.

6. Overuse the same type of links.
Sitewide links, reciprocal, 3 way links, high or Low PR, social media, press releases, article directories…you get the point. Diversify!

7. Have unnatural PR patterns in your backlinks.
It’s not natural to have only high PR backlinks, or low ones, for that matter. You need a healthy mix of higher and lower PR backlinks.

8. Place links in paid or sponsored sections.
Search engines are getting better and better at spotting these and thus lowering their PR and ranking weight.

9. Spam Wikipedia for links.
Get a Wikipedia link you deserve and it will stick around.

10. Spam (insert favorite social media site here) with fake DIGGS.
Do you like your reputation? Thought so. Produce something DIGG worthy instead.

11. Spam .Gov or .EDU forums.
You want .gov or .edu links? Earn them. edu links are easy to get if you offer them content that fills a need.

12. Comment spam blogs or guest books.
Do this if you enjoy being hated by influential content publishers.

13. Create a onetime link spike.
While some links spikes are good (e.g. press releases, articles, viral campaigns), don’t buy or build 50 links that all go live in 3 days and then stop. Spread your campaign out over time.

14. Focus on keywords you already rank for.
Have you calculated what those rankings would cost your business if you lost them? I suggest some preventative maintenance.

15. Create a link directory on your site.
That’s so 1999. Oh, and it doesn’t work.

16. Send out random “link to me” requests.
Mass reciprocal link campaigns don’t work. This can also cause loss of reputation quickly. You don’t want a bunch of junky, non-relevant backlinks cluttering up your profile anyhow. Only send a link request if it makes real sense for both sites to become link partners.

17. Don’t send a generic letter if you’re requesting a link.
Nobody likes impersonal letters. Take the time to compose a nice email that lays your proposal out in a personal way. If you’re link building correctly, then any link you have to email or call for should be done with the utmost of care and sincerity.

18. Create an article exchange on your site.
Better to host high quality content you produce and link out to high quality content in your niche, rather than having a spate of links on a random page of your site.

19. Use link networks.
Search engines spot artificial link networks easily; those 5,000 instant links you got are going to come back and bite you.

20. Submit to 5000 directories for $19.95.
You get what you pay for and in this case it will be NOTHING! Instead buy or submit free to hand selected directories that have a relevant page for your niche. Make sure the exact page you are getting a link on has at least a PR1. Many directories will throw your listing 200 pages deep in a category. We have tested over 600 directories in fact and found all but a small portion of them were worthless (supplemental results) to submit to. So do your homework.

21. Forget to add anchor link text.
Anchor text is a must-have for any link you get, so make sure you include it.

22. Don’t spam forums.
Don’t comment just to add a link in to your signature. Forums are great for building your authority in your niche, but behave as a helpful expert, not a low-level sleaze. Also, keep in mind that some forums disable signature links, while you have to earn them by posting helpfully and gaining authority within the forum.

23. Use 301 redirect urls excessively.
Used in moderation this can be very effective, but do you really think 300 redirects to your site look natural?

24. Don’t send annoying updates.
You don’t have to email everyone in your community every time you make a post. It’s ok to be excited but moderation is good.

25. Stop building links once you reach the top.
Do you stop promoting your site when you become an industry leader? Then why stop building links?

Top 10 Link Building Benefits

Published in: Labels:

As advances in technology move forward, the needs of online users change, the methods of advertising also experience an evolution over time. One of these more recent advertising methods has been link building. There are a lot of varieties of link building. Moreover, there are new rules that have to be followed to ensure the success of this method. But the benefits hardly ever change.

Link Building has great benefits and that is the reason why more and more number of website owners want to get it incorporated in their SEO process. The practice of link building is simply getting other websites to link back to yours. Despite how very important it is though, most webmasters don’t have a genuine link building campaign because it’s typically a very lengthy task to perform. But don’t let this be a reason you don’t do at least some link building for your website. You’d be doing your company a huge disservice by overlooking this vital Search Engine Optimization step.

1. It puts you in search engines.

Unless you’re found in Google, Yahoo, and MSN, your online business is non-existent. It also doesn’t help if you’re found a lot of pages away in search results. Your main goal should be at least among the top 10 on the targeted keywords you’re using. Research says that online users click the first website in the list, believing it’s the most relevant answer to their query.

2. Links make your site – and the internet – more usable, and useful.

Links provide simple site navigation between documents and other website’s. In addition to surfing through sites, links substantially increase the usability of site information since words within an article, website, blog, etc… can be linked – or extended out in a tree-like manner.

3. Links Create Direct Traffic. More links = more traffic.

Clicking a link from a trusted source is one of the most popular ways for people to find a new website. If a user is on a website they trust, they are likely to follow links that it recommends or that a user finds interesting – or at the least, users will follow links that make the destination site appear to provide some valuable information.

4.Links Build User Trust in You – Word-of-mouth is the best advertising there is.

If users see a link to you on a popular or respected site, their level of trust in what you say or what you offer is likely to be higher.

5. Cheap One-way linking

Cheap Linking can come from many methods and provide many benefits. Writing articles and submitting to article directories can be one method. Posting your own blog with a link back to yours, link directories and social networking sites are all great places to link onto with no or very little costs involved, from which all highly benefit your site traffic.

6.Links Build higher page ranks

PageRank is still a major factor, the major search engines consider when determining where websites are ranked. The reasoning is simple: if you have many links pointing to your site from other unique sites, your content probably is quality, important information. Every webpage is given its own PageRank. Your PageRank will be determined by the PR of the pages that link to you.

7. Links Tell Search Engines and Users What Your Pages Are About

To determine what a web page is about search engines look at a few critical elements on a web page, but just as important is the text used in links that point to your page – from within your site and from outside sites. If you could describe yourself in two words, what would they be?

8.Links Are Trackable and Provide Market Intelligence – Find out who, what, where, when, why, how – and use it.

There are a few methods of determining who links to you, and this information can be very valuable in providing market intelligence such as;
- competitor strengths/weaknesses (find out who links to them, request a link)
- consumer/user opinion (what people are saying about you/competitors on blogs/forums)
- potential suppliers (industry insiders who liked/linked to your site)
- source of testimonials
- reveals potential PR hazards (negative posts/links)
To determine who links to you, you can first check your traffic logs for ‘referrers’. Once seeing who has generated some traffic for you, you can find out whom the search engines have listed that link to you.

9.Links Reveal Strategic Partnerships

Upon reviewing your traffic logs or doing a simple link check on any of the major search engines (as mentioned above) you may encounter some sites that link to you that can reveal sources of mutual benefit, such as;
- marketing partnerships (develop reciprocal ad campaign)
- service or product suppliers
- potential employees
- potential contractors
- or for support/education/help

10.Links Are Assets – They Add Value to Your Property

Your website is your internet property, and it has value. What gives your website saleable value is the amount of traffic the site can generate. As we’ve shown, links are one of the most important factors in generating substantial website traffic, search engine rankings, trust, publicity, market intelligence and more. A substantial link network offers significant value to the overall package when determining a website’s value.

Like everyone else you are probably writing unique high quality articles and submitting them to relevant sites and article directories. You’re done right? That’s all there really is to do right? Wrong!

There are a myriad of option for you to make your article stand out from the crowd and yes produce more links.

1) Reach out to the REAL websites who republish your articles.
At first blush, these seem simple and obvious- but think about the possibilities for just a second. Bear with me I promise it will be worth it. Right now you are submitting your quality articles to the same list of directories as everyone else. By contacting websites who already willingly republished your articles in the past you can establish a relationship with them.

The Idea is to give that website additional unique QUALITY content so long as they allow you to place a few links inside the article. In a short time you should be able to build up a really nice list of REAL websites that you can push content to in exchange for links while everyone else is playing in the same article directory sandbox.

Bonus Tip 1:
What’s that you say? You are new to this game and not a lot of REAL people have republished your articles yet? No worries. Simply head on over to Ezine Article’s expert authors section:
http://ezinearticles.com/?type=experts. Look at all those articles these authors are publishing! You can simply search for who is republishing their articles and contact that site to offer your unique content.

It gets even better. http://ezinearticles.com/?type=txcat&cat=Internet-and-Businesses-Online:SEO – You can actually go into any category on Ezine articles and see the top authors in that category. So now you can search for who is republishing articles in your niche.

Bonus Tip 2:
When searching for who is republishing articles? Simply search for “The title of the article” in quotes. You can also add in the author name in quotes as well. You will have the best luck with Yahoo usually but try Bing & Google as well.

2) Interlink Your Articles
Once you have a relationship with these site owners and are publishing articles consistently on their sites, be sure you link out to your other articles on different websites. By sending links to your articles from unique sites you make those pages much more powerful and therefore the links they give you more powerful.

3) Use Social Media
Make sure to setup a twitter account for your efforts. You can retweet each of your articles that a webmaster agrees to publish. Because your twitter post will be unique and relevant to your niche you should attract followers with similar interest. This can send traffic and links to the site who post your content. You can use this fact as leverage when trying to get content up. If you can send links and traffic to a site owner plus provide them with unique relevant content who would say no to that?

4) Turn your article into an RSS feed

Use sites like http://feedity.com/ or http://www.feed43.com/ to turn any webpage into an RSS feed. Then ping that RSS feed with http://pingomatic.com/ and submit to directories like http://www.feedagg.com/.

5) Create a podcast and a slideshow from your article
Turn your article into a podcast. Got a microphone handy? Then you can read your article and create a podcast. http://podcastingscout.com/ has some great tips to get started. Once you have a podcast you can submit it to tons of directories as well. As for the Slideshow, I would suggest using http://www.slideshare.net/. It is a fantastic tool, easy to use and could be a subject for later blog post.

6) Make a video from your article
Using free software like http://www.jingproject.com/ you can easily create a nice looking video using the slideshow you created with SlideShare or even PowerPoint .

7) Create an eBook out of your most popular articles.
This will be fairly easy to do as the content is already written and just needs to be repurposed into a 20 to 40 page eBook. You can then give the eBook away free on your site and use it as link bait.

Ping me on Twitter if you have any questions. Or post your comments below, we look forward to reading and commenting back. Also, feel free to share your ideas as well if I happened to be remiss and miss a glaring option.

This guide helps you avoid the serious damage that can occur to your website rankings & traffic by improperly moving your content to a new domain name.

Step 1: Traffic Loss

Be prepared for a dip in your overall traffic. It is going to happen! However, if you do everything right you can keep the pain to a minimum. Usually your traffic will dip for 1 week to 1 month depending on the size of your site. If the risk of temporarily losing traffic does not reward the benefit of moving to a new domain name, stop right here.

Tip: Because you know your traffic will dip it is a great idea to open or increase budget on a PPC campaign. Target your top performing organic keywords and use exact keyword matches so you don’t pay for non converting clicks.

Step 2: 301 Redirects

301 redirect your old domain to your new domain. Do not use a 302 redirect. 301 tells the search engines that this is a permanent move while 302 would mean the move is only temporary. You need to 301 redirect each page to its corresponding page on the new domain. Do not simply redirect all pages to the new homepage. The only time you should redirect to your homepage is if no other content on the new site is a good match.

When moving a large site you may want to move one section to test that you are doing it correctly before messing up the entire site only to find out too late that you missed a step!

Tip: Google recommends that you keep the 301 redirects up for at least 180 days. I would highly suggest you simply keep them live forever. You can remove your images, videos, etc.. off the server but keep the 301′s live.

Tip: You should also create custom 404 pages that suggest the user visit your new site.

Tip: In Google Webmaster Central go to Site Configuration > Change of Address – It will tell you to add and verify your new domain; once completed you can alert Google of your domain change.

Step 3: Update Sitemaps
In your webmaster accounts resend a copy of your OLD sitemap to Google, Bing & Yahoo (For Yahoo use the Site Explorer Tool). The submission pages are within Google Webmaster Tools and Bing Webmaster Center. The search engines will crawl your old urls and be notified of your move much quicker than waiting to be indexed again.

After that is done, create and submit a sitemap for your new domain on its webmaster accounts as well.

Tip: Use sites like http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ if you do not already have an xml sitemap created.

Step 4: Update Your Links
Make sure that all your internal links were actually updated to the new domain. This can be more of a pain if you used absolute instead of relative file paths. However, most editing tools like Dreamweaver have a find and replace function for mass edits.

Once your internal links are in order start updating external links that are pointing to your old domain. You are never going to get everyone to switch but if you prepare a nice stock email you will be surprised at how many will update their link to your new domain.

Use Yahoo’s Site Explorer & Google Webmaster tool’s “Links To Your Site” section to find external sites that link to you. Both sites allow you to export the data to excel which is very handy.

Also, do not forget your paid directory links. Make sure your Yahoo Directory and Best Of The Web Directory links are pointing to your new domain.

Tip: Your analytics package is also a great source to find external links. Export a list of the top 100 (or more) sites sending traffic to your site and reach out to them.

Tip: Free tools like ISS Toolkit (Super Sweet) and the Xenu’s Link Sleuth should be used to make sure there are no broken links or images on your site and a whole host of other issues that may have happened in your move.

Step 5: Monitor
Be sure to monitor your webmaster accounts for search engine crawl errors and correct any issues you see immediately.

Step 6: Link Building
You really would be smart to start a link building campaign to coincide with your new domain launch. At the very least you should do the following as well as updating as many old links as possible in step 5.

Write and Distribute an Article – (low cost) easily net 20 to 40 links to your new domain.
Use Social Bookmarking – (Free)- Google some “Do Follow” bookmarking lists and add your site.
Submit a Press Release – Use PR Web or another distribution service. Go with the basic package all you really care about are the links.
Use Web 2.0: Create or update your blog on WordPress.org, Squidoo, Hubpages…etc. to include a link to your new site.

These simple and low cost techniques should easily net you 60 to 80 new links to your site and that is being conservative. Link Building and SEO Experts can of course offer you a more robust and custom made campaign.

Tip: Focus a good portion of your new links to internal pages. Search engines will have no problem with your homepage but can always use a good reason to dive deeper into your site.

Step 7: Pat Yourself On The Back!
By doing the steps above you will have made moving to a new domain name a piece of cake.

If you have any questions about a step or anything that was not covered please post in the comments bellow. I hope this helps save you from some of the domain change horror stories I have heard over the years.

There are several benefits for finding exact match domains for a website. There are probably many business owners with websites who are completely unsure about what the term, ‘exact match domains’ even means. This means that one should make certain that the domain name or web address of their website matches their business name or most targeted keyword. It is not a new method and is certainly one that is recommended. Regardless of the products or services that are offered, it is important that a good domain name is used.

It has been known for years that the name of a company should describe exactly what it does. If a company name is confusing, it deters new customers. The same is true when online. The domain name should describe quite briefly what it is that the website in question specializes in. This helps customers feel confident when clicking on the web address. This helps customers to remember the domain name. This helps customers to not have any confusion whatsoever.

Customers need to have an easy time finding what it is that they are looking for. By having exact match domains, they are able to search for the item they want and easily find the solution since there is no confusion. The average consumer is not professionally trained about how to do internet searches. That is why it is critical to make finding the website of any company one that will be easily found and understood. While it is important to avoid confusion, make searching easy and describe what the company does in an exact match domain, there is also another reason it is such an important choice to make.

The simple fact of the matter is that having exact match domains helps websites’ search engine rankings to be much better. Search engines use algorithms to decide which websites should be put at the top of the search results. These algorithms are based on a variety of factors and change continuously. Something that has been discovered, however, is that exact match domain names have proven to have better results with search engine optimization. That’s why a website that sells DISH Network, for example, should have the term, ‘DISH Network’ in the domain name if possible. Indeed, there are several benefits to having exact match domain names. So be sure to do that when selecting the website domain name for any webpage.

What is the main purpose of submitting a website to a link directory? Directory submission increases the number of inbound links so that your website becomes more visible in the search engine results. If this prime purpose of directory submission is not solved, your efforts of link building become unproductive.

One important way to achieve maximum number of inbound links is to submit the website to SEO friendly directories only. If you are new to directory submission and don’t understand the meaning of SEO-friendly directories, here is a discussion to help you.

What Are SEO Friendly Directories?
The SEO-friendly directories are those that help in getting website links indexed in the search engine results. In other words, the links submitted to SEO-friendly directories only are counted by the search engines. There are many link directories which are not SEO-friendly as the links accommodated by them are not given any weight by the search engines.

Why Submit to SEO-friendly Directories Only?
If you want to obtain more and more inbound links that would be counted by the search engines, make sure to submit your websites to SEO-friendly directories. Submitting to a non SEO-friendly link directory makes your website visible only to the people searching through that directory. On the other hand, the links submitted to a SEO-friendly directory would be visible to the web traffic as well as the search engine spiders.

It is not that you should ignore the non SEO-friendly directories completely. But, your main focus should be on the directories that help in your SEO campaign.

How to Identify SEO-friendly Directories?
Identifying SEO-friendly directories is not a difficult task even if you are new to directory submission. Here are some tips that should help you in your search:
“ Check out the code on the link page. If you find the Meta tag set to nofollow or noindex, it means that the directory is non SEO-friendly.
“ Also check the code of the links submitted to the web directory. If the code has ‘rel=nofollow’, it is a non SEO-friendly directory.
“ The standard code for directory submission is ‘’. If you find any other code used for submission, it is a non SEO-friendly directory.
“ Finally, if the URLs submitted to the directory contain too many parameters, the directory is more likely to be non SEO-friendly.

Also check few links submitted to the directory. If the link takes you to some other website than the one mentioned in the directory, you must not submit your link to the directory. Search engines don’t favor the directories with links that direct to some other locations.

A SEO-friendly link directory may be a free directory or a paid one. So, you must search for it in both the categories. You must also remember that a SEO-friendly directory doesn’t ensure good ranking for your website. Your website must have quality to attract the attention of search engine spiders.

It is a good idea to consult the link building experts to find the best SEO-friendly directories on the web. However, you must also use the tips above to find them yourself so that none of the good web directories is missed.

Submission to link directories should be a process free from certain roadblocks. The following sections discuss some of the things that should be avoided for rewarding link building experience through link directories.

Choosing Irrelevant Directories

One of the common mistakes made by the webmasters is submission of website links to irrelevant directories. Many novice link submitters, with the expectation of distributing the website links extensively, commit the mistake of submitting them to each and every directory coming their way. This not only leads to wastage of time and efforts but may also tag you as a spammer.

Same is true about submission of website link to the irrelevant categories on a link directory. Make sure that you are submitting your website link to the relevant directories and categories.

Repetition of Anchor Text

If you are submitting to more than one web directories, make sure that there is variation in the anchor text used. Many webmasters commit the mistake of using the same anchor text for all the directory submission which brings down the benefit of using different keywords.

Same is true about the website description. Similar descriptions on all the link directories leave less opportunity to gain high visibility. Moreover, it might look like a spamming behavior to repeat the anchor text and website descriptions.

Keyword Spamming

Another common web directory submission mistake is embedding a huge number of keywords in the title and website descriptions. The keywords should appear in a natural flow to make best use of the directory submissions. Keyword spamming leads to disapproval of website link by the directories. Choose the most targeted keywords per description and keep on changing them for different directory submissions.

Large Submissions per Day

The inexperienced SEO people commit this mistake by making large number of web directory submissions in a day. Supposing that most of the links get approved might turn the wheel against you. Search engines are often suspicious about a dramatic increase in a website’s links on the web. SO, make fewer submissions per day and be patient to see the results.

Not Submitting to Deep Link Directories

Deep link directories are those that allow the submission of a website’s internal pages as well. Ignoring these directories might reduce the effectiveness of directory submission. Obtaining links for the main page as well as for the internal pages should be your strategy.

Preferring Paid Links over Organic Links

Many webmasters choose paid links as the fast ways of link building through directory submission. However, most of the paid links are temporary in nature, whereas the organic or natural links remain active for long time. So, make sure that you concentrate equally on organic links and paid links.

Link directory submission requires some rules to be followed. By keeping the above-mentioned mistakes in mind, you can easily stick to the directory submission rules and gain benefits out of the process.

Any internet marketer knows how hard it is to get people to visit his or her website. Some companies are willing to pay up to $10 or $20 for each visitor to their site through pay-per-click campaigns.

What we sometimes overlook is that keeping a visitor is just as valuable as getting a new one. In fact, return visitors are even more valuable because they are more likely to take action, to purchase whatever you have to sell to them.

Here are a few tips on keeping your visitors.

1. Make sure your site gives your visitors what they want. Internet surfers have very short attention span, and there are millions of site competing for their attention. Your message should jump out at them and grab their interest from the get-go. It should be clear and specific. If your main business is selling Korean DVD’s, make certain that they get the message within the first few seconds. If they have to dig through your site to find Korean DVDs, chances are, they’d already left your site.

2. Keep your site up-to-date. When people return to a site they want to see fresh content. If you’re selling Korean movies, you’ll want to frequently update your site with new releases, special discounts, sales, etc. Updating your site on a regular basis lets your customers know you’re on the ball, that you’re diligent about your business.

3. Send out regular newsletters. Build an opt-in email list from visitors to your site. Place newsletter sign-up forms on as many pages on your site as possible. Send out regular newsletters informing your recipients about the latest updates, specials, offers, etc. Be courteous to your prospects by not sending them too much junk mail and by providing a means for them to have the mailings stopped at any time.

4. Incorporate forums and news feeds on your site. Forums and news feeds update themselves with minimal effort and maintenance on your part, so it’s a no-brainer to incorporate them into your site whenever appropriate.

5. Maintain a blog on your site. A professional blog can be a part of your domain, or you can link to an external blog from your site. The link should be displayed prominently. If your site offers professional services and products, keep your blog entries professional and relevant to the content. Keep miscellaneous personal rants away from your site as they can turn your customers off.

6. Incorporate third-party widgets to your site. Widgets can add special functionality your site without your having to write and implement the codes yourself. There widgets for chat, polls, newsletter signups, weather forecasts, and so on and so forth. Widgets are a good way to add bells and whistles to your site without the expenses of software development and extra bandwidth (since they’re hosted on external sites). However, use them sparingly as they could slow down your site and steal away your visitors (through the outgoing links that they display).

7. Make yourself unique. Chances are, there are hundreds or thousands of other sites in your niche competing for your target visitors. How do you stand out? How do you set yourself apart from others? Check out your competitors’ websites and assess their strengths and weaknesses. Are there certain features that are lacking on their sites that you would be able to provide on yours? Being unique is not so much about coming up with something totally new and revolutionary– although this would do the trick, too– it’s about filling certain voids and needs that are not being filled elsewhere.

8. Make your site fun and attractive. Your site should be easy and intuitive to navigate. The design of the site should fit its function and complement the nature of your business. Avoid flashing links, graphics, glaring colors and other elements that might annoy your visitors.

9. Collect feedbacks from your visitors. Feedbacks are a good way to engage your visitor and gather their inputs on making your site more appealing and usable. They let visitors know that you care about their needs and wishes.

10. Offer “free” things on your site. Sending out newsletters to people in your opt-in list offering them “free” this and “free” that is a good way to attract return traffic. In truth, nothing in life is really free. This probably explains why no matter how much the word “free” is overused, it remains a very powerful marketing technique. Although few people are foolish enough to think they’d actually get something absolutely free, with no strings attached, they’re always looking for extra perks and incentives to give them more for their money.

On 24th August 2010, Google was granted a new patent by the name of- determining quality of backlinks. As the name suggests, this patent gives out detailed information on how Google judges the value of backlinks.

The number of links pointing to a website helps the site in ranking well in the search engine results pages. Google judges a site based on the quality and quantity of its backlinks. A site having few quality backlinks will rank better than the site having a lot of low quality backlinks.

It is very important to understand how Google evaluates backlinks. This will help you in building quality backlinks to your site.

An abstract from the patent: A ranking component ranks documents, such as web pages or web sites, to obtain a ranking score that defines a quality judgment of the document. The ranking score of a particular document is based on the ranking score of the documents which link to it and based on affiliation among the documents.

What Can We Deduce From The Patent?

1. Google allocates a lot of importance to the backlinks coming from affiliated pages.

2. Backlinks coming from independent pages are assigned individual values.

Google’s Patent Confirms Our Belief in the Current Link Building Practices in the SEO Market:

1. The quality of a backlink is more critical than the quantity of backlinks to a site.

2. You need to build a considerable number of backlinks for your site to rank well in the SERP’s.

3. Try to build backlinks from niche websites. Backlinks from a closely related website might be considered to be affiliated by Google.

4. Avoid purchasing links from third party link sellers.

What are your views on Google’s latest patent? Does it change the way you build backlinks? Share your link building techniques in the comments section and we will publish the best ones.

Link Building And SEO Tips

Published in: Labels:

Link building is one of the key components of SEO. Because it is so vital, it is important to be aware of what to look for and how to correctly go about link building.

The important thing to remember about link building seo is this - are the sites you are looking at linking to relevant? You might have noticed when you do a search on a search engine like yahoo or Google, next to the website is a percentage. This is the percentage that the search engine rated the site as relevant to the key words you put in. So you might be asking how Google creates this percentage of relevancy? The answer is simple. While it is not the only factor, one of the key factors is the number of sites that contain your link. To get your link on someone else’s page usually involves something called a link exchange or reciprocal link. What this means is, basically, they will put your link on their site in exchange for you doing the same. Here is where the relevancy now comes in. It is vital to make sure that the sites you use for this portion of SEO link building are related in some close fashion to your site. For example, if your web site is on golf and golfing, then a link to a fishing site is not going to be relevant. Not having relevant links in your SEO link building can have a negative impact on your search engine rating .So think carefully before trading links.

Another key to remember with SEO link building is that most search engines prefer the turtle approach. That is to say, slow and steady wins out in the end. Search engines will usually give higher rank and relevancy ratings to those sites that show steady, slow and consistent upward motion.

There is one exception to relevancy ranking that might have an effect on your SEO link building strategies and the time frame you have in mind. Some search engines will not rank a site unless it has been active for a minimum of six months. This time when your site will be unrankable is a good time to practice your SEO link building. It allows a link to age. The longer a relevant link sits on your site and vice versa, the more favorable it is looked upon.

Follow these guidelines when planning out your SEO link building strategy to help ensure that your site makes it all the way to the top. Remember with SEO, link building is all about the relevancy.

So good luck to you, and in case you do not wish to rely solely on fortune, apply for an Link Building SEO now!

Building links is a simple concept, but is an important aspect to a flourishing web page. Basically, it is the method of developing inbound links to your website. This can be accomplished using many different techniques such as Directory Submission, article submissions, press releases, social book marking, newsletters, and blogging. Furthermore you may also use the method of having reciprocal links, one way links, link exchanges and deep linking. This is one of the best ways for your website to gain publicity and traffic. With all of these strategies, you actually get help with the increase of your links, page rank and search engine results. Link building however, is the best way that you can improve the number of visitors to your site and ranking on search engines as well.

Advantages:

1. When you have incoming links that are of good quality, it will be seen as an authority site.

2. Link building aids in developing page rank, visibility and creditability.

3. Larger range of search engine exposure.

As mentioned before, there are a few ways in which you can make your web site get the attention that it truly deserves. One way is through link exchange and this is when two owner's of a web site make an agreement that they will show one another's link on their own web page.

The second type of link building is one way links. One way links are the best and most valuable links that you can have, because they are considered more natural. When you receive links to your website from pages that show relevant content and have high page ranking; these also ensure you a thumbs up in search engine rankings. An example on how you can accomplish this is if you happen to know someone who has their own website. Then you can simply ask that person to post links that represent your website on their own site. There, you have a one way link.

There are also reciprocal links. This kind of linking is normally done between start up bloggers. It is not as valuable as one way links, but it can still be a powerful tool to getting traffic to your website. Another way of link building is deep linking. Deep linking is a highly important factor when it comes down to building links for your site, because not only does it add to the entire amount of back links to your page; but it also contributes to the traffic levels. In addition, this also increases spider's interest in your content, which makes your site more likely for them to index much quicker and give it more relevance.

SEO Link building has many advantages, but the most important advantage is that your website will get the traffic that it needs to survive in the big world of internet businesses.

Robots.txt is an important file that contains instructions to search engine spiders that tells them which pages are to be indexed and made public, and which pages should not be crawled.

It is important that all the pages of our website are indexed by search engines and that the search engines do not skip any pages for good search rankings. Whenever, search engine spiders visit a website, the first file that they search is the Robots.txt file. They use this file as the starting point because this is where they will find information regarding how they should treat the site. If there is no Robots.txt file, then by default it will try to crawl all the pages. But in practice, we can see that the search engine spiders skip some of the pages in their indexing for reasons of its own. However, if there is a Robots.txt file, which says that the spider should crawl all the pages, then it will ensure that none of the pages are skipped.

At times, some of the pages in our website should not be crawled such as pages within the members' account and other pages with sensitive information, etc. In such scenarios, it is important that we tell the search engine spiders that they should not index and list such pages in the search results. This information will be included in the Robots.txt. There may be situations whereby you may be adding a new page to your website but those might be still under construction. This page may have broken links and incomplete information. So when search engines crawl pages with broken links then it will have negative effect on the search rankings. Therefore, in such situations too, using Robots.txt we can stop the search engine spiders from visiting those pages.

There are times when we will be having two versions of the same content in our website for various reasons such as in the case of having a print friendly version and web version of the same page. Such pages can run into duplicate content issues with the search engines leading to receiving penalties from search engines that will affect our ranking. Therefore, to protect ourselves from such problems, Robots.txt file is highly important.

Manual SEO Link Building

Published in: Labels:

Link building is one of the most essential parts of internet marketing and search engine optimisation. By gaining links to your site you will see your rankings increase, which will naturally bring you more traffic. There are many different ways of gaining links but the most effective ones are one-way links from web sites or directories that have relevant content.
The operative word in the title of this article is “MANUAL”. People try to trick and get round the search engines by using automated software but at the end of the day the search engines make the rules and we have to follow them. By gaining good links manually you will ensure that they are all submitted correctly and at a steady pace. When link building, if you gain too many links to quickly then link based search engines will see this and dismiss the links to your site deeming them worthless which is a waste of your time and money.
Web directories
This is the best way to gain a base to your link building campaign helping you get your site cached faster, giving you initial traffic and links. This takes some time to do and unless you pay for this to be done all it will cost you is time. You can submit your link to directories and get good one-way links but don’t forget to put your keywords in the title! This will help you gain rankings with less popular keywords and give you the foundations for ranking with competitive keywords or phrases. Web directories are launched and closed all the time so you should constantly check for new search engine friendly directories and ensure you have a constant and increasing amount of links to your site. Also a great benefit of directories is that there are niche directories which you can submit to. The advantage of this is the content and links around your link is more relevant, which can helps give the link more credibility.
Article directories
By submitting articles across the internet with relevant links you can gain some very effective links to your site. The obvious problem with article submission is the amount of time needed to create and submit your article but as with the web directories they dont charge you to submit your articles. There are many companies which will submit manually to the directories for you and give you reports so you can follow your articles. Some article directories allow you to have your keywords in the article linking directly back to your site giving you relevant one way links. In some article directories you can have as many as 3 direct links to your site in your article helping you optimise more than one keyword. Also the directories allow you to put a one-way link in the resource box helping you gain even more links.
Article submissions are very effective because you can dedicate a full page of content around your links, maximising the relevant content. The search engines see the link as very relevant and give it more credibility than just having a link from an unrelated site or a link from a page with a high link ratio compared to the amount content.
Link exchanging
This is a good way for site owners to swap links to gain some extra links and traffic. This can be done by simply having a links page on your web site and advertising the fact you are willing to exchange links. You need to make sure the web sites that are offering to link to you are cached in the search engines and are search engine friendly. You can also join networks between sites which all swap links to help gain better rankings and more traffic. In general the better the sites page ranking you are swapping with the more valuable the link is to you.
However you must remember not to get associated with a network of web sites that regular swap links between themselves because you never know what the search engines have up there sleeves in future updates.
Triangle linking
Triangle linking is a good way of exchanging links but still gain a one way link from a web site. This is achieved by a web site linking to your main site and then having a second site that can link to their site.
However you need to ensure that your 2 web sites are on different IP addresses, do not have duplicate content and are completely unassociated else your second site may be picked up as
a gateway or as a duplicate web site, which will potentially ruin your rankings on both your web sites.
Paid links
If you have the budget and need to gain links from web sites that have good PR and traffic then you can purchase search engine friendly one way links from such web sites. By having a site with a higher page rank linking to your site it shows the search engines your site is important enough for good respected sites to link to you hence why it may be worth paying. This is not essential to do as you
can gain good links from the other methods discussed. However, if your fighting for a competitive keyword then it may be essential to help you rank near the top.

Importance Of Alt Image Tag In SEO

Published in: Labels:

Alt image tag is a (Hypertext Markup Language) HTML tag which gives the web page owner the option of instead of showing an image (jpeg or gif format) file it will be shown as standard text type of information instead. It is one of the onpage factor in Link Building Strategies

Syntax
< src = " spacemarine.gif " alt = " Space Marines by Games Workshop Limited ">

Alt image tag uses

As of this time images is not a factor in the rankings as image files cannot be indexed by the search engine spider, but having an image will enhance the appearance and the presentation of a web page. Some web page may contain image files that are integral to the content they are presenting. Web surfers with slowed down internet access will be horrified to visit your site as it may take a thousand years to load it all, however, having an alt image tag will remedy this problem and also give these surfers an idea on what the image of your page have. It is therefore a good way to put an alt image tag, and while you're at it would also be a good idea as well to include your keyword to it.

Alt Tag Optimization

Alt tag text is now ignored by the top search engine spiders due to the fact that this is another one of those things that web designers have abused to notch up their ranking in the natural results. Alt tag optimization will therefore use the alt image tags to not only describe the keyword but out relevant keywords in that tag. The top three Search engines (Yahoo!, Google and MSN) may not allow their spiders to index such tags, there are still other search engine that uses or allows the alt image tag be used as a ranking factor. One idea also gives rise to the fact that the algorithms use in search engine rankings is never stable and is always changing so it is better to be flexible and prepared to an instance wherein the alt image tag may once again be considered a factor in ranking a site on the natural search results of a search engine.

Social networking is an essential part of marketing on the internet. But for social networking to work for your business, you really have got to be seen to be participating in these communities.

If you are anything like me, you probably belong to a handful of social networking sites and do not have the time to go to each one to post an update.

A stagnant social networking profile does nothing for your reputation. Problem is with so many other things to do, one soon loses track

There is a tool I have been using for a while now to help make things easier.
It allows you to post to all your social networking profiles with one click.

Admittedly all the sites will display the same message but it does keep your profile active.

And if your update contains a link then you could get up to 42 different sites that the link is posted to. Not a bad thing

The tool is http://ping.fm

Anyone following me on twitter will notice that some of my updates are via ping.fm

It's a free service and really user friendly.
There are 42 social networking sites that you can update from your ping dashboard. You do have to be registered with each of these social networking sites and ping.fm will ask for your log in details, stands to reason really.

And you'll find that you may already be a member of the social networking sites updated via ping.fm

the current list includes facebook, twitter, linkedIn, friendfeed, diigo, Hootsuite, Flickr, Posterous, Vox and more

So if you want the ability to update all your social networking profiles with one click, check out ping.fm

So I have managed to get a few of the posts on this and other blogger blogs to rank well with the search engines for a bunch of keywords

Everyone in affiliate marketing goes on about how great Wordpress is and how all those plug ins allow you to enhance your optimization efforts. And there is no disputing that this is true

But blogger posts can also be easily optimized and you have the advantage of quick indexing with blogger

Here are a few on page optimization tips for your blogger blog

On page SEO tip 1: Domain name. Before you choose the domain name of your blogger blog, do some keyword research and determine which keyword is most relevant to your blog.

Once you have identified the keyword, use it as the first word of your blogspot domain name
Remember, the earlier in your URL the keyword appears, the better for your SEO

On page SEO tip 2: Post title. When setting up your blog, you should have selected yes for the option to allocate each post it's own unique URL.

If you have done this each post's URL is your blogger domain name + the post title.

You should, where possible, include the keyword you are targeting in each post, in the title of your post

On page SEO tip 3: Template. We know that the google bot reads the webpage from LEFT to RIGHT and TOP to BOTTOM.

So why would you want to choose a template that has the about me and other widgets on the left side of the page? They have little or no SEO value.

It makes better sense to use a template that has the blog post to the left of the page and all the other widgets, ads etc on the right side of the page

It really is amazing how many bloggers are burning rubber out there. By that I mean they are working really hard but doing all the wrong things.

No wonder people think blogging for an income does not work

I was at a forum which I have been a member of for about three years and have about 60 posts on there.

Yeah, I know 60 posts for three years does not make me the most active member of the forum. And it is one of the more active webmaster forums.

I noticed something odd. A chap who had about 2000 posts for a one year membership declared his earnings. About $80 a month.

Shocking.

Now I am not saying forum participation is bad, in fact it's a good thing and I get a fair amount of traffic from the forums. But you have got to be smart about it. Having one well thought out and relevant answer to someones question is going to go much further than lots of inanae posts. it's about the quality of the message not the quantity.

So if you are a marketer who is doing your own thing and not outsourced, try to focus on return on investment regarding time and effort. it'll help you decide how often you post in the forums and how much time you leave for other effective things like article marketing, social networking, product creation, content creation.... need I go on?

I don't know about you by $80 a month is not a lot of money, it's quite bad.

So why did this grab my attention?

This guy has done what he was told to do by the gurus, forum participation and he was actively participating as well.

But if you are going to post 2000 posts in a forum in one year...... Doesn't leave any time for much else.

See what I mean by working smart rather than hard.
